at Chicago 3, Atlanta 2 (11 innings): Jeff Ridgway hit pinch-hitter Reed Johnson with the bases loaded in the 11th. The Braves have lost six in a row and fell to 7-24 on the road. They have lost their last 21 one-run games on the road since August, matching the longest such streak in major league history. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Kansas City lost 21 consecutive one-run games on the road from 2000-01. Chicago’s Jim Edmonds tied it, 2-2, with a one-out solo homer in the ninth, setting the stage for the comeback victory.
Philadelphia 3, at Florida 0: Jamie Moyer (7-3) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and the Phillies scored two runs on a wild pitch.
at Cincinnati 6, St. Louis 2: Brandon Phillips hit a three-run triple in a four-run seventh inning. Jared Burton (3-1) struck out two in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Milwaukee 9, at Houston 6: Ben Sheets (7-1) struck out a season-high nine, and Mike Cameron and Corey Hart homered for the second consecutive game. Prince Fielder and Gabe Kapler also homered for the Brewers. Darin Erstad, Miguel Tejada and Mark Loretta homered for the Astros, who have lost 11 of their last 14 and five consecutive series.
Arizona 5, at New York 4 (10 innings): Justin Upton doubled leading off the 10th against Aaron Heilman (0-3) and scored on Miguel Montero’s sacrifice fly. The Diamondbacks won for only the sixth time in 20 road games.
San Francisco 10, at Colorado 7: Fred Lewis hit a three-run homer and Jonathan Sanchez (6-3) pitched five shaky innings for his fourth consecutive victory. John Bowker had three hits as part of a 14-hit attack.
at Pittsburgh 7, Washington 5: Nate McLouth, Doug Mientkiewicz and Chris Gomez each had two hits and Tom Gorzelanny (5-5) won for the first time in four starts.
at San Diego 9, Dodgers 0: Jake Peavy (5-3), behind five first-inning runs, made a triumphant return with six strong innings.
