Assailants stab man, apologize

Police said that four men broke into a house, stabbed and beat a man -- and then apologized, when they realized they had attacked the wrong guy.
The 33-year-old victim of Monday’s attack is in serious condition at a Modesto hospital with a cut across his left eyebrow and stab wounds to his upper back.
Investigators said four men later identified as gang members kicked in the victim’s door while he was sleeping.
They fled in a gray car.
