Toy chest lids a danger to tots
Bayside Furnishings of San Diego is recalling 9,350 La Jolla Boat Beds and Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Beds after a 22-month-old boy died when the lid of a toy chest on one of the beds fell on his head.
The beds were sold at Costco Wholesale Corp. and other stores nationwide from January 2006 to May 2008 for $700 to $1,400. The two styles of beds have attached toy chests with a hardwood top, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
Parents and caregivers are advised to immediately stop children from using the toy chests. The commission says children can still sleep in the beds but must not use the toy chests. Consumers can contact Bayside for instructions on receiving a free repair kit with replacement lid supports by calling (877) 494-2536 or going to www.baysidefurnishings.com. * About 367,000 HP Fax 1010 and 1010xi machines, made in China and imported by Hewlett-Packard Co., are being recalled because an internal component failure can cause overheating, posing a risk of burns or fire. The fax machines were sold at electronics, computer and camera stores nationwide, as well as at online stores, from November 2002 to December 2004. For more information, call (888) 654-9296 or go to www.hp.com/go/fax1010recall or www.cpsc.gov.
