Seeing another ‘Battlestar’
Last month, the Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan reported that as many as three “Battlestar Galactica” TV films were under discussion at the Sci Fi Channel and noted that it would make sense to make more “Battlestar” movies while the show’s creative team was still together.
Well, too late for that now -- the cast has been flung far and wide. But: “I just heard about the first ‘Battlestar’ movie being greenlit,” said Grace Park, Cylon No. 8, by phone from Vancouver, Canada. “A TV movie, but still! It’s supposed to start in August.”
The brilliantly obsessive fan website Galactica Sitrep wrote, “The first of a possible three films is now in development,” and reported that co-executive producer Jane Espenson is writing, with Edward James Olmos directing. And the website io9 noted that four of the five actors said to be approached were all Cylon characters.
The Sci Fi Channel says it would “love to see the continuation of ‘Battlestar’ . . . but the idea is still in the discussion stage.”
