Want no truck with this idea
Re “Mayor signs law to clean port air,” June 27
So L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has mandated that independent port truck drivers become employees of trucking companies. How fortunate for the companies and the truck manufacturers.
Why throw away operating trucks whose only fault is the polluting diesel engine? Wouldn’t it be far more cost-effective to have a program of engine swapping in existing trucks to newer natural gas engines or engines that meet the Port of Los Angeles’ low-emission standards?
Many drivers have an understandable love affair with their chariots. Why break up love affairs? This is throwing out the bathwater and the baby!
