Gang activity on LAPD’s doorstep
Re “Huge raid targets gang,” June 26
As a resident of Eagle Rock, I could not be more pleased with the combined efforts of law enforcement in bringing some sort of control to the escalating gang violence in our area. I am also happy that The Times gave the story front-page prominence.
One issue The Times does not address is how close this gang activity is to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division headquarters. In some areas of Drew Street, you are less than a mile from the station. It is deplorable that the gang activity had risen to such a level with a major police station so close. There needs to be some accountability from local law enforcement as to why this gang activity has risen to this level when it is literally occurring in their backyard. I would have hoped that The Times could have pinpointed the station’s location on one of the detailed maps so nonresidents could have a reasonable understanding of the magnitude of the problem.
