THE JOY OF REPETITION

For a quintet of impish, soul-addicted synthesizer geeks, Hot Chip sure seems to be getting angrier with every album. The British group’s first bona-fide club banger “Over and Over” was a meta-commentary on Hot Chip’s perceived smugness, taunting hipsters with its verse chant “Laid back? We’ll give you laid back,” while merciless house beats and a deadpan delivery ensured the joke was pounded home. On its third album, “Made in the Dark,” a few fanged experimental tracks like “Shake a Fist” and “Bendable Poseable” will try your pop-inclined patience, but sweet-tempered R&B; slow burns like “We’re Looking for a Lot of Love” (not to mention the song about pro wrestling) will move all but the most cynical hearts and hips. 8 p.m. Mon. El Rey Theatre. $24. (323) 936-6400
