TALK ABOUT YOUR SNAPPY COMEBACKS
The UCLA Film & Television Archive’s Universal Preservation: Pre-Code Films From the Universal and Paramount Libraries presents a dozen gems from 1929-33, a cinematic era known for its crackling dialogue and provocative attitudes. “I wanted to dig deep and find films that haven’t seen the light of the projector for years,†says programmer Mimi Brody. To wit: Feb. 16’s “Close Harmony†(1929), pictured, a tale of a scheming dancer. Starts 7:30 p.m. Fri.; ends Feb. 23. Billy Wilder Theater. $10. www.cinema.ucla.edu
