THE SHORT SET: FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK

This Saturday is the big kiddie-rock show of the year. Dan Zanes and Friends only make it out to L.A. about once every 12 months. Many tykes know the drill, but if it’s your first time, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Arrive early and get your ya-yas off. There’s plenty of space for running in front of Royce Hall, the colossal Janss Steps to conquer and a great roll-down hill next to Bruin Walk. Hit the potty before showtime because the whole concert is barely an hour and you don’t want to miss Father Goose, who shows up in the second half. Don’t worry if your seat is in the back because you won’t be in it for long. That empty area in front of the stage? That’s where you need to be! Wear clothes that are colorful and mismatched -- the uniform of the true DZ fan. Bone up by listening to “Thrift Shop.†For the last song, you’ll follow Dan (pictured) and the band into the lobby while singing (traditionally, it’s “Sidewalks of New Yorkâ€). Have your CDs and stuff ready for them to sign, but be patient. This is hard to do, but Dan really appreciates it. 405 Hilgard Ave., UCLA Campus. 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sat. $25, $15 children.
