AROUND THE WORLD (HOLD THE GLOBE)

As Miss Teen USA contestant Lauren Caitlin Upton so memorably demonstrated, the average American’s knowledge of the world is pretty limited. Fortunately, the editors of the Onion have seen fit to enlighten the masses with their new book, “Our Dumb World: Atlas of the Planet Earth.” The tome is chockablock with maps, graphs illustrating such statistics as “yearly income in widescreen televisions,” and timelines (“Ireland, 1387: ‘Luck of the Irish runs out’ ”). But contrary to a promise on the book’s cover, you won’t find a “Free Globe Inside!” Staffer Chad Mackers says, “You’d be surprised at how many e-mails we get from people who are upset because they didn’t get a globe.” Sadly Chad, we wouldn’t.
