ROCK ON
Will 2008 go down as the year of the rock musical? Considering the success of recent local productions such as “Hair†and “Evel Knievel: The Rock Opera,†it comes as no surprise that yet another rock extravaganza rolls out this week. Featuring David Bowie-inspired ‘70s-era glam rock, John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch†opens Friday at the Met Theatre in Hollywood. The plot follows a young East German boy who falls in love with a U.S. soldier. Desperate to escape the Communist state, the boy opts for a sex-change operation, marries the soldier and relocates to America. But when the relationship fails, he-now-she turns to his/her first love -- rock ‘n’ roll -- and starts a band. Pictured: Chuck DiMaria as Hedwig. 8 p.m. Fri., 8 and 11 p.m. Sat., 7 p.m. Sun. Ends Feb. 24. $30. (323) 960-1055; www.plays411.com/hedwig
