Second class, keep to the right

Re “Freeway toll plan is in fast lane,” Jan. 9

Do you know why they are called freeways? Because they are free. That was the whole point. All state residents pool their money to put up highways without stoplights. We don’t pay extra to drive on them. Los Angeles, home of the freeway lifestyle, seems to have forgotten that.

What the toll/carpool lanes are really about is disempowering the less well off. It is no longer enough to have the right number of people in the car, which those in any economic class can do. Now, you will have to be well off to drive in the carpool lane. If you don’t have money, you are second class.
