A gang member shot a 12-year-old boy as he was walking home from a restaurant in South Los Angeles on Thursday night, police said.
The gunman fired on the boy as he was walking with two friends near 84th Street and Vermont Avenue about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, said Los Angeles Police Officer April Harding.
The 12-year-old was shot in the back and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was in stable condition this afternoon, Harding said. The victim was not involved in a gang, and the shooting does not appear to be race-related, she said.
Police are seeking information on the suspect and vehicle involved. To contact investigators, call (323) 789-1401 or (877) 529-3855.
