* St. Louis 2, at Detroit 0: Manny Legace made 31 saves for his 20th career shutout to lift the Blues over the league-leading Red Wings. It was the first time Detroit, winners of 14 of its last 16 games, was held scoreless this season.

* at Boston 5, Atlanta 2: The Bruins’ first goal of the game -- a power-play score by Dennis Wideman -- was the team’s 18,000th, making the Bruins the second NHL team to reach that mark. Montreal has 18,886.

* at Columbus 4, Edmonton 2: Rick Nash scored three times to end a goal-scoring slump. He hadn’t scored a goal in eight games dating to a two-goal performance Dec. 5.

* San Jose 3, at Minnesota 2: The Sharks made a mark in the NHL record book, getting their 10th consecutive road victory. They last lost a road game Nov. 9 and are tied with four other teams for second on the list for consecutive road wins. Detroit won 12 in a row on the road in March and April 2006.

* at Phoenix 4, Colorado 3 (SO): Peter Mueller and Radim Vrbata scored in the shootout for the Coyotes. After the Avalanche’s Wojtek Wolski failed to record a shot in the shootout, Mueller scored on a wrist shot past goalie Peter Budaj. After Ilya Bryzgalov stopped Marek Svatos, Vrbata scored on a backhand.

* N.Y. Islanders 4, at Carolina 1: The Islanders scored three goals during a 3:39 stretch. They entered the game tied with Phoenix for the fewest goals in the league (90) but scored all four goals in the second period -- three on the power play.
