U.S. diversity

Re “Say it loud and proud,” editorial, Nov. 30

I was pleasantly surprised to read Sunday’s editorial reassuring Americans that Muslims are part and parcel of this great country’s social and political fabric. Pundits will continue to shove their prejudiced rhetoric down our throats, but at the end of the day, our democratically elected next president, Barack Hussein Obama, represents our nation and its ever-growing diversity.

I commend The Times for taking this courageous stance, as did former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell. My peers and I have come to accept that Islamophobia will not disappear tomorrow, but with Obama’s election, I can hope for a less antagonistic America for my children.
