Air Force to seek new contract bids Business Briefing / AEROSPACE

The U.S. Air Force will reopen part of a competition to build and install upgraded cockpit software for C-130 transport aircraft in 2011, work valued at as much as $3.3 billion, officials said.
A winner will be announced in March 2012, said Maj. Gen. David Gray, director of Global Reach programs.
The initial $4.1-billion contract was awarded to Boeing Co. in 2001. Lockheed Martin Corp. challenged the award after Darleen Druyun, the Air Force’s former No. 2 acquisition official, admitted improperly favoring Boeing in the selection.
