At the root of development

Re “Turf war over garden lot,” Aug. 18
Referring to the new development to be erected on the property, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office says: “It’s being treated like every other proposed project in the city.”
That’s true. As long as the developers pay their “dues” in the form of campaign contributions or money for politicians’ favorite projects, they can do as they will. Forget about environmental impacts -- give them the zoning changes they need.
Who cares about adding traffic to already congested roads? So what if our infrastructure is already overburdened? The mayor and his cronies can always find excuses to allow the new developments to move ahead.
