A Santa Ana man whose DNA was found on a soda can left at the crime scene has been convicted of murder.
Carlos Martinez could face the death penalty for stabbing a couple in their home in 2004. Prosecutors say he entered the residence pretending to be a prospective home buyer. He then killed Nicholas Casas, 83, and Emilia Casas, 73, with steak knives and drank a can of Pepsi that he left in the kitchen. The trial’s penalty phase begins Monday.
