* New York 9, at Minnesota 6 (12 innings): Alex Rodriguez hit a tiebreaking home run in the 12th inning and the Yankees overcame Mariano Rivera’s first blown save this season. Xavier Nady hit a two-run home run in the 12th, also against Matt Guerrier (6-6), to help the Yankees end a four-game skid, their longest this season.
* at Cleveland 7, Baltimore 5: Asdrubal Cabrera hit a tiebreaking run-scoring single in the eighth inning and the Indians won their fifth game in a row to match their best winning streak this season. Cabrera had three of Cleveland’s 12 hits.
* Toronto 6, at Detroit 4: Vernon Wells’ two-out, two-run double capped a four-run seventh inning for the Blue Jays, who got three hits, including a home run, from Adam Lind.
* at Chicago 9, Kansas City 0: Javier Vazquez threw eight scoreless innings and Jermaine Dye hit a two-run home run. Vazquez (9-10) matched his season high with 10 strikeouts. Brian Bannister (7-11) lost his fifth consecutive decision. He is winless in his last eight starts.
* at Oakland 2, Tampa Bay 1: Bobby Crosby hit a two-run home run and Gio Gonzalez earned his first major league win, pitching out of a couple of jams in five-plus innings in his second career start. The Athletics won for the second time in their last 14 games.
* at Boston 19, Texas 17: Kevin Youkilis’ go-ahead home run in the eighth inning helped lift the Red Sox, who scored 10 runs in the first inning, in which David Ortiz hit two three-run home runs.
* at Angels 7, Seattle 3: Vladimir Guerrero, Garret Anderson and Juan Rivera each hit a home run for the Angels, and Francisco Rodriguez picked up his major league-best 46th save.
