Detroit mayor can visit sister

Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick can visit his sister without violating the terms of his bail in an assault case, Judge Ronald Giles ruled. An order not to contact witnesses did not apply to Ayanna Kilpatrick, Giles said.
The assault charge stems from a confrontation between the mayor and two investigators who were trying to deliver a subpoena to his sister.
The mayor and his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty, were charged in March with perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct in office in connection with testimony in a civil trial. Text messages contradicted their denial of an affair, which was a key point in the trial last year.
