at Boston 12, Oakland 2: Jason Bay hit his first home run with the Red Sox, and Kevin Youkilis hit a pair of two-run homers. Bay drilled a 3-and-1 pitch from Dana Eveland over the Green Monster, a three-run shot that gave the Red Sox a 5-2 lead in the first inning.

Cleveland 5, at Minnesota 1: Kelly Shoppach hit a two-run homer to lead the Indians. The Twins had a chance to move into first place in the Central Division for the first time since May 13 but remained half a game behind the Chicago White Sox.
