Customer gets lesson in law and orders

Police were summoned to a Claremont restaurant, where an inebriated customer was refusing to pay her bill.

When officers asked her to settle her tab, the customer replied: “I’m a woman Marine. I don’t take orders, I give them.”

Then, according to the Claremont Courier, she said: “Drop down and give me 50.”

She was arrested for intoxication, the cops giving the orders in this case.

Talk about a poor exit strategy

A teenage boy “ ‘mooning’ people out the window” of a bus was detained by the driver until officers arrived, reported the Star News, an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department publication.

The youth’s strategy puzzled Star News writer Patti Sippey, who wrote: “Aren’t you supposed to have your own car to do this stunt? I mean, so you can actually get away?”

Zeroing in on Target

Security at a Target store in Manhattan Beach discovered 19 bottles of BioSilk hair products missing and, after reviewing the security videotape, recognized the two females who escaped with the containers in their purses. The Beachcomber newspaper said they are the focus of a “Target investigation of the ‘Boostin’ BioSilk’ group, which has been observed stealing the product at four different Target locations.” The company has had enough bad-hair days.

These edgy sushi places!

No sooner did I mention joints with such names as 2 Die for Sushi and such adventurous menu items as “911 Roll” than I found a sign in West L.A. bragging about an aesthetically unpleasing combo. Of course, non-sushi eateries sometimes forsake traditional signage (see photos), including a not-very-choosy bar and grill in Utah (spotted by Byron Myhre), an English pub with the usual quality of English food and a bait shop that wouldn’t get a bite from everyone (from Connie Carlton).

Nat Read of Glendale received an e-mail with this subject heading: “Very CheapPrice Bacheelor, MasteerMBA and Doctoraate dip1omas.” Easy for them to say.

miscelLAny

I guess it was a slow news period the other day in Laguna Beach, where the Coastline Pilot carried this item on its police blotter:

“Sunday . . . Bluebird Canyon Drive: A $1 loss was reported due to fraud at 12:42 p.m. in the 300 block.” I’ll let you know if someone takes up a collection for the victim.
