PHOENIX -- After losing a 22-inning game to the Colorado Rockies and arriving in Phoenix at about 4 a.m. Friday, the San Diego Padres fell behind 6-0 in the first inning and lost, 9-0.

The Padres have scored one run in their last 35 innings. They didn’t score in the last four innings of a 10-2 loss to Colorado on Wednesday.

Arizona extended its dominance of Greg Maddux (2-1), who yielded nine runs and 13 hits, one shy of his career highs in both categories. He pitched seven innings, walking one and striking out three.

“I wasn’t locating good, and they didn’t miss nothing,” Maddux said. “It seemed like I made a lot of mistakes and they hit almost every one.”

Chris Young and Eric Byrnes opened the game with singles and scored on Conor Jackson’s one-out triple. Mark Reynolds bounced an infield single off Maddux, who was able to hold Jackson at third.

Justin Upton’s RBI single made it 3-0, and after an intentional walk to load the bases, Chris Snyder cleared the bases with a double to the gap in right-center field.
