Man admits he sent online threat

A San Diego man pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to threatening an animal rights advocate who videotaped two skin divers harassing harbor seals at the beach area known as La Jolla Children’s Pool.

Kent Douglas Trego, 54, could receive up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing July 7.

Trego admitted that he sent a computer threat to a member of the Animal Protection and Rescue League who had videotaped the divers, which led to their being cited by authorities. In the threat, Trego said a motorcycle club had been contacted and the activist would be “dealt with very harshly” and possibly killed.
