Broadway will go ‘Country’
“Pure Country,” a new musical based on a 1992 movie of the same name, is coming to Broadway next year.
Its producers said Thursday that it would be directed by Peter Masterson, who is best known for the Broadway musical hit “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.”
The music will be by the film’s composer, Steve Dorff, who also wrote Celine Dion’s “Miracle” and the movie theme “Every Which Way But Loose.” John Bettis, a Grammy nominee whose songs include Madonna’s “Crazy for You,” will supply the lyrics.
“Pure Country” tells the story of a country superstar who begins to find himself after he walks out of an over-hyped concert tour. The movie starred George Strait and Lesley Ann Warren.
