Chicago 2, at Cleveland 1: John Danks didn’t allow a hit until Casey Blake singled leading off the sixth inning and Joe Crede hit a tiebreaking home run off Jake Westbrook in the eighth to lead the White Sox. The Indians scored 17 runs in winning the first two games of the opening series, but managed only two hits against four pitchers.

Kansas City 4, at Detroit 1: Zack Greinke allowed one run in seven innings, and Alex Gordon and Mark Teahen each hit home runs for the Royals to complete the season-opening three-game sweep. The Tigers’ Jeremy Bonderman (0-1) gave up four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. He had been 5-0 in eight previous starts against Kansas City dating to April 2006.

at New York 3, Toronto 2: Bobby Abreu’s bloop single ended an eighth-inning tie, and the Yankees got a solid outing from Phil Hughes. Joba Chamberlain (1-0) worked a scoreless inning and Mariano Rivera got three outs for his second save.

Angels 5, at Minnesota 4: Torii Hunter homered against his former team and the Angels won three of four in the series.
