* at Houston 56, Rice 48: Anthony Alridge had 205 rushing yards, Donnie Avery had 346 receiving yards and the Cougars (3-3, 2-1 Conference USA) scored the final 21 points to rally past the Owls (1-5, 1-1), who led, 48-35, entering the fourth quarter.

* at Alabama Birmingham 26, Tulane 21: Joseph Webb caught six passes for 106 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown and the Blazers (2-4, 1-1 Conference USA) won at Birmingham, Ala. Tulane (1-5, 0-2) lost its eighth conference game in a row.

* at Tulsa 38, Marshall 31: Quarterback Paul Smith passed for 385 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another as the Golden Hurricane (4-2, 2-1 Conference USA) held off the Thundering Herd (0-6, 0-2) at Tulsa, Okla.

* at Southern Mississippi 28, Southern Methodist 7: Stephen Reaves ran for one touchdown and threw for another in his first start at quarterback for the Golden Eagles Southern Miss (3-3, 1-1 Conference USA), who extended the Mustangs’ (1-5, 0-2) losing streak to four games at Hattiesburg, Miss.

* at Middle Tennessee 21, Memphis 7: Quarterback Dwight Dasher threw for one touchdown, rushed for another score and collected 410 yards of offense at Memphis to lead the Blue Raiders (2-5) to victory at over the Tigers (2-4).

* at Central Michigan 47, Army 23: Dan LeFevour ran for four touchdowns and the Chippewas (4-3) took advantage of seven turnovers by Black Knights (3-4) to win at Mount Pleasant, Mich.

* Temple 24, at Akron 20: Adam DiMichele completed 23 of 33 to lead the Owls (2-5, 2-2 Mid-American) past the Zips (3-4, 2-1) at Akron, Ohio.

* at Miami (Ohio) 47, Bowling Green 14: The RedHawks (4-3, 3-0 Mid-American) sacked the Falcons’ (3-3, 1-1) Tyler Sheehan six times and limited him to a season-low 140 passing yards at Oxford, Ohio. Miami won by its largest margin since beating Buffalo, 54-13, on Nov. 5, 2005.

* at Buffalo 43, Toledo 33: James Starks ran for 231 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulls (3-4, 3-1 Mid-American) defeated the Rockets (2-5, 0-3) at Amherst, N.Y.

* at Ohio 48, Eastern Michigan 42: Kalvin McRae’s two touchdowns led the Bobcats (3-4, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) Ohio to a 28-0 first-half lead and the Bobcats past the Eagles (2-5, 1-2) at Athens, Ohio.

* East Carolina 45, at Texas El Paso 42 (OT): Rob Kass plunged into the end zone on a quarterback sneak during the first overtime to give the Panthers (4-3-1, 3-1 Conference USA) a wild victory at El Paso. Kass sent the game to overtime with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Juwon Crowell as time ran out to tie the score, 39-39. Texas El Paso’s (4-3, 2-1) Trevor Vittatoe completed 38-of-55 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns and just one interception.
