Hospital’s status is downgraded
Because of problems with medical documentation, a national healthcare accrediting body has downgraded Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center to provisional accreditation status, effective Nov. 13.
The Downey public hospital, run by Los Angeles County, did not meet national standards for avoiding the use of unapproved abbreviations in medical documents. National regulators require a 90% compliance rate for such record-keeping; Rancho officials reported a 77% rate.
County health officials said patients were never at risk. The nonprofit Joint Commission has given the hospital four months to fix the problem.
