About 200 firefighters took seven hours to contain a brush fire that scorched 400 acres near Gilman Springs Road and Allesandro Boulevard on Sunday, authorities said.
Dubbed the Allesandro fire, the blaze briefly threatened a few homes but touched none of them in the sparsely populated area of rolling hills and grassland just east of Moreno Valley, said Patrick Chandler, a spokesman for the Riverside County Fire Department.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.
