A British judge sentenced George Michael on Friday to 100 hours of community service and banned him from driving for two years for driving under the influence of drugs.
Michael pleaded guilty May 8 to a charge of driving while unfit through drugs, which the 43-year-old singer has identified as prescription medications.
Police said the pop star had been found slumped at the wheel of his car in London in the early hours of Oct. 2, 2006.
Michael, appearing in a London court Friday, said he was ashamed that he “had done something really wrong in putting other people at risk.”
Afterward, he told reporters, “I am glad to put this behind me and now I’m off to do the biggest show of my life.” Michael is set to perform tonight and Sunday night in the first concerts at the rebuilt Wembley stadium in London.
