* New York 9, at Boston 5: The Yankees climbed out of the East Division cellar. They’re no longer tied for last with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but they still trail the first-place Red Sox by 12 1/2 games. Jorge Posada’s three-run double capped a six-run rally that broke a 3-3 tie.
* Chicago 3, at Toronto 0: Javier Vazquez pitched eight innings for his first win since April 13, and the White Sox stopped a five-game losing streak. Vazquez won his first two outings, then went 0-3 over his next seven starts.
* Kansas City 4, at Tampa Bay 1: Former USC pitcher Brian Bannister yielded two hits in eight innings to help the Royals end a seven-game losing streak. Bannister won for the first time since the Royals obtained him in an off-season trade. He gave up a fourth-inning single to Akinori Iwamura and Greg Norton’s leadoff homer in the fifth before retiring the final 12 batters he faced.
* Texas 9, at Seattle 8: Eric Gagne came on in the ninth to get the save, his fourth this season, for the Rangers. Ichiro Suzuki set the Seattle Mariners’ club record with a hit in his 25th consecutive game.
* Minnesota 3, at Oakland 2 (10 innings): Jeff Cirillo and Mike Redmond each had run-scoring singles in the 10th, and the Twins’ Joe Nathan got his 12th save despite giving up a run in the final inning.
* at Cleveland 12, Detroit 11: David Dellucci singled home the winning run with two out to cap a five-run ninth.
* at Angels 3, Baltimore 2: John Lackey became the major leagues’ first nine-game winner. It was a career-best fifth consecutive victory.
