Carriers match United fare hike

A fare increase initiated last week by UAL Corp’s United Airlines was matched by competitors over the weekend, marking the second successful fare increase in two weeks.
United Airlines said Friday that it raised domestic U.S. airfares $2 to $5 each way. Major carriers, including AMR Corp’s American Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc., matched the increase over the weekend systemwide.
