* Milwaukee 13, at Chicago 4: The Brewers scored nine runs in the first three innings, making it easy for Ben Sheets (10-3) to win his sixth consecutive decision. The Brewers got four runs in the first, three in the second and two more in the third, and ended the Cubs’ seven-game winning streak.
* New York 8, at Philadelphia 3: Carlos Beltran homered twice for the second straight game. He gave the Mets a 5-3 lead with a two-run shot against starter J.A. Happ in the fifth inning. His solo shot against Ryan Madson in the seventh made it 6-3. It was the fifth time he has homered from both sides of the plate.
* Atlanta 6, at Florida 5: Edgar Renteria’s double against reliever Armando Benitez (2-4) drove in Willie Harris, breaking a 1-1 tie and sending the Braves to their fifth consecutive victory. Atlanta had not won five in a row since May 8-12.
* Colorado 5, at Houston 0: Jeff Francis yielded three hits in seven innings and the Rockies beat their former ace, Jason Jennings, to end an eight-game losing streak. Despite the victory, the Rockies reached the midpoint of the season with a sub-.500 record for the 10th time in 15 years.
* at Pittsburgh 7, Washington 2: Adam LaRoche had a two-run double, and Jack Wilson and Freddy Sanchez each had two-run singles in a six-run second inning against Jason Bergmann (1-5).
* at Cincinnati 5, St. Louis 1: Kyle Lohse pitched into the eighth inning, holding the Cardinals to five hits, and helped himself with a sacrifice fly. The Reds reached the halfway point of their season at 31-50, the worst record in the majors.
* at San Francisco 4, Arizona 1: Noah Lowry matched his season high with eight strikeouts to win his fifth straight decision against the Diamondbacks. He hasn’t lost to them since April 20, 2005.
* San Diego 3, at Dodgers 1 (12 innings): Brett Tomko yielded two run-scoring doubles in the top of the 11th.
