A Rancho Santa Margarita man convicted of beating and sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman was sentenced Friday to 46 years to life in prison, authorities said.
Raul Salvador Marin, 33, was with a group of campers who met the unidentified woman at a campsite on June 14, 2004. Prosecutors charged that he followed her down a desolate dirt road where he violently attacked her, beat her repeatedly with a rock, sexually assaulted her and left her for dead.
The woman, who was in court on Friday, narrowly survived the attack and was found by bicyclists the next day.
