Bird lovers, let passions take wing

Morro Bay, Calif.
Jan. 12-15: Avian enthusiasts flock together for the Winter Bird Festival in Morro Bay, home during the winter to more than 200 species of migratory and resident birds, city officials say. Field trips will take visitors to birding sites, including the Carrizo Plain, Morro Bay National Estuary and Montana de Oro State Park. There will be workshops, bird-oriented exhibits and a vendor fair, plus guest speakers including gray-parrot expert Irene Pepperberg.

Vancouver, Canada
Jan. 19-Feb. 4: Even if the weather outside is frightful, you can grab a hot meal for a cool price at some of Vancouver’s best restaurants. For the 17 days of Dine Out Vancouver, 161 restaurants -- including some of the city’s top establishments -- plus local pubs and ethnic eateries, offer three courses for $13, $22 or $30.
