A 91-year-old man resting in his bed at a convalescent home was attacked by a man who tried to smother him with a pillow, police said Monday.
Joshua Matthew Drougas, 18, of Costa Mesa was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and elder abuse in connection with the attack on Ted Mastos late Sunday night.
Tom Skiba, administrator of Mesa Verde Convalescent Hospital in the 600 block of Center Street, said that Drougas, who seemed to be “confused,” entered the hospital as employees arrived for a shift change and that he was quickly thwarted.
Skiba said Mastos was not harmed and was resting comfortably after the incident.
