Hotel room’s yours -- for 19 hours

I enjoyed Jane Engle’s column [“Luxe Hotels Aim to Make ‘Over the Top’ Part of the Package,” Travel Insider, Jan. 28]. But my experience has proved that there are no more 24-hour days in hotels.
Check-in is usually from 2 to 4 p.m., and checkout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with occasional late checkout. That can add up to 20% less than 24 hours. Perhaps the front desk is kinder and gentler on these special packages.
