Beastie Boys mix it up

The Beastie Boys have sustained their career for more than two decades with word of mouth, so to speak -- that is, the impolite raps that the three New Yorkers deliver with brazen, bratty aplomb. But in a little change of pace, Mike D, Ad-Rock and MCA have released an album of instrumental music, “The Mix Up,” and on their current tour they’re devoting certain concerts entirely to that collection’s vintage jazz-funk grooves. In SoCal, that means two nights of rap hits outdoors at the Greek, followed by a zipped-lips performance at the Wiltern.
The Beastie Boys, Greek Theatre, 2700 N. Vermont Ave., L.A., 7:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday. $49.50. (323) 665-1927.
Also 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. $49.50. (213) 380-5005.
