At least 51 people have died in flooding and an avalanche that have destroyed hundreds of homes in the last 10 days after warm weather and heavy spring rains across much of Afghanistan.
An additional 29 people were killed by avalanches in mountainous areas of neighboring Pakistan.
The governor of Afghanistan’s central Daikundi province said all the districts had been flooded after heavy hail and rainstorms Thursday and Friday. An avalanche Saturday killed an unknown number of people, he said.
About 300 people are shoveling snow to clear a road between Daikundi and neighboring Bamian province that was buried under more than 100 feet of snow after the avalanche, he said.
