2001 Domaine Caillot Meursault La Barre Dessus ‘Clos Marguerite’
- Share via
Burgundy is not known for its bargains, but here’s one, a Meursault from the excellent Domaine Caillot for less than $30. The Chardonnay grapes come from 30- to 40-year-old vines, which the estate farms organically. Fermented with wild yeasts, Caillot’s La Barre Dessus “Clos Marguerite” is fine spun and layered with flavors and aromas -- but it’s that silken texture that keeps you coming back to the glass for more.
Break it out for a special dinner, maybe broiled scallops in the shell, a fish in beurre blanc, or a mess of steamed shrimp.
