The United States is considering deploying its advanced Patriot missile defense system near Tokyo after North Korea’s recent missile and nuclear tests, a Japanese newspaper reported today.
Washington unofficially informed the Japanese government that it was considering the surface-to-air interceptor missiles around two U.S. bases, Yokota Air Base in Tokyo’s western suburbs and Yokosuka naval base, south of the capital, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported.
The move would be part of an ongoing U.S.-Japanese effort to counter what is seen as North Korea’s growing threat.
