GOP’s tolerance for failures of leadership

Re “Ethics Panel to Investigate Foley Scandal,” Oct. 6
House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and the rest of the Republican leadership allowed former Rep. Mark Foley (R-Fla.) to continue chairing the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus despite Foley’s apparently well-known predatory habits. They tolerated Foley and put children at risk in order to hold onto his congressional seat.
Resignation is not enough. Hastert, and any others involved, should be impeached and prosecuted.
