Miami to meet Nevada in bowl game in Boise
Miami’s going north for the bowl season -- far north -- and the consolation for the loser of the Big 12 championship game will be a Cotton Bowl bid.
The Hurricanes accepted an invitation Wednesday to the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho, where they’ll meet Nevada on Dec. 31. It’ll be the first meeting between the teams, plus Miami’s first appearance in that bowl.
The loser of the Big 12 championship game Saturday between Oklahoma and Nebraska will play in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day, the conference announced.
Texas A&M; of the Big 12 accepted an invitation to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego, where it will meet California on Dec. 28.

Bill Cowher, coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a former linebacker at North Carolina State, said he was not interested in the coaching opening at his alma mater.... Finalists for the Walter Camp player of the year award: Troy Smith of Ohio State, Brady Quinn of Notre Dame, Steve Slaton of West Virginia, Colt Brennan of Hawaii and Darren McFadden of Arkansas.
