BIG EAST
No. 8 Louisville 48, at Pittsburgh 24: Brian Brohm threw four touchdown passes against a defense that again showed little resistance, and the Cardinals (10-1, 5-1) beat the Panthers (6-6, 2-5) to take another step toward a Big East title. If Louisville defeats Connecticut next Saturday and Rutgers loses at West Virginia, the Cardinals will represent the Big East in a Bowl Championship Series game. Louisville outscored Pitt 34-3 during one stretch after falling behind 14-7 in the first quarter. Brohm threw scoring passes of 42 yards to Mario Urrutia, nine yards and one yard to Gary Barnidge, and 75 yards to Harry Douglas. Brohm finished 21 for 29 for 337 yards.
at No. 15 Rutgers 38, Syracuse 7: Brian Leonard become Rutgers’ career scoring leader, and the Scarlet Knights (10-1, 5-1) moved to within a win of earning their first Big East title with a victory over the Orange (4-8, 1-6) at Piscataway, N.J. Rutgers can clinch the league and a berth in the BCS, the rewards of a storybook season, by beating No. 7 West Virginia on the road next Saturday. Leonard rushed for 106 yards and scored on a pair of two-yard second-half touchdown runs, giving him 266 points. That broke the mark of 261 set by kicker Kennan Starzell from 1976 to ’79.
Cincinnati 26, at Connecticut 23: Derrick Stewart caught nine passes for 166 yards, including a 50-yard reception with less than a minute left to set up the winning field goal to lead the Bearcats (7-5, 4-3) over the Huskies (4-7, 1-5) at East Hartford.
