Hearing the Who

IN his slightly dismissive review of “Endless Wire,” the first album of new material from the Who in a generation, Richard Cromelin undercut his own credibility by claiming that “the band isn’t playing much of the new album on its nostalgia-oriented tour” [“Tommy, Can You Hear a New Opera?” Oct. 29]. A quick search on the Internet would uncover recent set lists that feature at least 10 new songs, including most of the mini-opera. Pete Townshend has said many times in print that he wouldn’t have gone back on the road without new material to support. If anything, the band is defying the greatest-hits expectations of audiences, and Townshend and Roger Daltrey seem reinvigorated by the new songs.
