FAIRFIELD, CALIF. — An off-duty police officer attending a memorial for two young brothers who died in a car crash was shot and killed Friday after an argument outside the service, police said.
Fairfield police said the woman, 28, a Richmond, Calif., police officer, was shot after she and a man started arguing about 3 p.m. and stepped outside the Fairfield Community Center. She was shot next to her car, authorities said.
Witnesses said attendees cried and prayed as rescue workers tried to revive the officer. The officer’s name hasn’t been released.
No other information was immediately available, including the woman’s relationship to the brothers or the gunman.
The memorial service was for Demari Jermaine Hutchinson, 12, and Immanuel Kayne Hutchinson-Callison, 7, of Suisun City, who died when the car they were riding in was hit by an SUV earlier this month.
