“The Bad Boy”
Hector El Father
Machete Music
Artist info:
Already a force in the world of reggaeton as part of the duo Hector y Tito, Hector “El Father” makes his bid for a big break as a solo artist with “The Bad Boy.” The album is big -- 18 tracks -- and bears an expansive, cinematic sound with large-scale orchestration, but always with Hector’s voice out front.
Back story:
Hector Delgado Roman was born in Parque Ecuestre in Carolina, Puerto Rico, and started singing when he was 10. In the mid-’90s he formed Hector and Tito with Efrain Fines. Hector y Tito released five albums over the course of a 12-year run, helping to establish the hybrid mix of Latin music, reggae and hip-hop known as reggaeton. The duo’s first album was in 1998 and their success became global with several chart-topping hits and awards, including a Latin Billboard Award. During the duo’s run, Hector became a producer for other acts such as Don Omar. The duo broke up in 2005, and Hector made the decision to go solo, adopting the name “El Father.” Soon after, he signed a deal with Jay-Z to help the promotion of his album in the U.S. That led to their collaboration on the song “Here We Go.” Hector has his own clothing designs, under the label Bambino, sponsored by Jay-Z’s Rocawear line.
Influences:
Vico C, El General
Trivia:
Along with his clothing line, Hector owns a dance club in Puerto Rico.
