‘Surf City USA’ Label Is Official, City Says

Huntington Beach is officially Surf City USA, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It has awarded the city an official registration number, giving it the right to use “Surf City USA” to advertise, market and promote the city, officials said.
The city’s efforts to obtain that right set off a turf war among several towns known for their surfing heritage, most notable among them Santa Cruz.
Officials said Huntington Beach would slap “Surf City USA” onto beach bags, T-shirts, bicycles and furniture.
