Angels’ Opening Series Is on TV
Fox Sports Net arranged Thursday to televise the Angels’ season-opening series, part of what an FSN source called “a good-faith gesture” to revive negotiations with the team.
Angel owner Arte Moreno terminated discussions on a proposed 10-year, $500-million contract Wednesday, leaving club executives scrambling to secure television coverage this season. The FSN decision guarantees the Angels coverage through the first week and affords both sides time for additional negotiations, which are expected to take place this weekend.
Angel officials spoke with Channels 5, 13 and 56 on Thursday but put any decisions on hold pending further consideration of the FSN bid.
The collapse of the new deal left the Angels working under the current FSN contract, which limits coverage to 50 games on FSN West. On Thursday, FSN bought the rights to next week’s series against the Seattle Mariners, with Monday’s season opener and Wednesday’s series finale scheduled to air on FSN West and Tuesday’s game on Channel 13.
Under the proposed deal, FSN West would carry 100 games and Channel 13 would air 50 others.
