Prime Minister Tony Blair said he did not trade nominations to the House of Lords for secret loans to his Labor Party, as critics have alleged.

Blair insisted that neither he nor his party had done anything improper with loans, peerage nominations, knighthoods or other honors.

“It shouldn’t be one in exchange for the other, and it wasn’t,†he said during his monthly news conference.
